This full-day e-MTB adventure starts and ends in the peaceful Jelovica Valley, where you can park your car and begin your mountain journey. Alternatively you can reach the starting point from Kolasin by taxi (+/- € 15). The route forms a scenic loop that leads high above the tree line into the Bjelasica National Park, one of Montenegro’s most striking alpine landscapes.
You’ll ride along panoramic gravel roads that stretch across open meadows and ridgelines, surrounded by endless horizons. The trail passes several traditional shepherds’ hamlets where life still moves to the rhythm of the mountains and cattle grazes on the vast pastures. A string of crystal-clear glacial lakes completes the picture. Along the way, you can stop at rustic katuns – small mountain huts – to enjoy homemade cheese, a warm meal or a glass of local rakija.
One of the highlights is Bendovac viewpoint, where you’ll look down over the emerald Biogradsko Lake and the depths of the ancient Biogradska Gora primeval forest – one of the last untouched rainforests in Europe. From here the world seems to fall away beneath you. For those who prefer a shorter ride, the loop can be reduced by about 10 km by skipping the Bendovac detour. But if time allows, this viewpoint is worth every pedal stroke.
The descend is fast and in the shad mostly. Back in Jelovica you can order a cold beer and/or a home made meal.
