This e-MTB day loop starts with a transfer from our base at Jelovia (Kolasin) the lakeside town of Plav and takes you deep into one of the wildest corners of the Montenegrin highlands. From the first turns of the pedals you leave the town behind and follow quiet roads and tracks into the broad valley of Babino Polje, framed by gentle slopes and distant, rugged ridges or Prokletije.
The climb out of the valley is steady but never extreme, giving you time to settle into the rhythm of the day. As you gain height, the views open up and the route traces a spectacular arc towards the tri-border area of Montenegro, Kosovo and Albania. From a viewpoint close to the frontier, a short hike leads to the ridge that marks the actual border point. On clear days you can see far into all three countries, a reminder of how connected and untamed these mountains still are.
From here, the trail bends back into Montenegro and leads you to the emerald waters of Hridsko Lake, a high mountain jewel set at almost two thousand metres. Dark fir forests, blue water and dark volcanic rock create a perfect backdrop for a long break or a refreshing swim on warm summer days.
After the refreshment gravity will take over. It is a 20 km descent back to Plav. You will pass Bajrović Katun, a working shepherd settlement where horses graze in the meadows and wooden huts dot the hillside. This is an ideal place to stop for a simple lunch, a coffee or a glass of homemade juice, and to watch daily life in the highlands unfold at its own pace.
In Plav the taxi will wait you on the agreed time & place to return you safely to where it all began.
