The Lipovo Valley ride

A day ride into Montenegro’s most unspoiled mountain valley

This day ride starts in the mountain town of Kolašin and leads you straight into the quiet beauty of the Lipovo Valley. From the first pedal strokes you leave the main road behind and follow a small country lane that winds between hay meadows, wooden barns and scattered farmhouses, with the peaks of the Moraca Mountains and Sinjajevina towering high above you.

At the end of the valley the climb starts. As you gain height, the views widen, the valley opens and the air becomes cooler and clearer. The ascent brings you to a high mountain pass, where the forest gives way to open slopes and the rolling highlands of Sinjajevina op in front of you.

At the pass you choose how your day continues. Riders who prefer a shorter outing can start the long descent back into the valley, enjoying a flowing ride all the way down to Kolašin.

Those who want more time on the bike can add a beautiful, relatively gentle 20 km loop across the gravel roads of Sinjajevina plateau. Here the route crosses summer pastures and passes a few remote shepherd huts, some of them serving home made food to adventurous travellers. This part of the trip is above the treeline, with endless horizons and the feeling of being far away from everyday life. In the afternoon you return to the pass and then let gravity do the work.
